Good morning from day 2

Well it's 9am and Ethan is still sound asleep. Can someone say tired? We did go out last nightto visit the Mall. We saw the Lincon Memorial, Washington Monument and the US Capitiol.
Today weLre grabbing some breakfast, see the White House then catch a train to NEW YORK CITY!!!! Try to catch us tomorrow on the Today Show . . . "live from the plaza."

Famous Last Words

So we made it to DC . . . We got on the train at 725 this morning and by 840 Ethan had asked "How much longer?" The answer was 8 more hours!!! Anyway, here he is at the Metro in DC.
For dinner we met a friend whose name is Joe. He and hus wife were our neighborswhen we lived in Columbia. I'd tell you what he does for a living, but he'd probally have me killed.
Okay, famous last words . . . As we were leaving dinner, we crossed the street when we heard Ethan call for us. He was standing in the middle of the crosswalk holding a brick above his head . . . . "He guys, look what I found!"
Well it's 830p and Ethan and I are heading for the roof top pool at our hotel.

Heading to New York

Good Morning from aboard a train. As I type this, Ethan (my nephew) and I are aboard a train heading to New York with an overnight stop in DC. We have lots of fun packed into our 4 day trip (Empire State Buiilding, Statue of Liberty, an attempt to get on the Today Show, and even a Yankees game). I'll try to keep the blog updated with pictures along the way. Well 22 minutes down and 8 more hours to go!!!

2nd Trip to Myrtle Beach

Hey Family and Friends,

We're back and we had another great trip to Myrtle Beach. This time Robbie and his co-worker's husband (Susan's husband Andy) had to attend a three day (8 - 4pm) training so Martha and Campbell, and Susan and her kids (Evan and Jillian) got to hang out all day, play at the pool, and people watch.

Here is Campbell and Jillian (9 months old) hanging out and playing on our first day there. They were playing very nicely on their blankets. This time Campbell kept her hands to herself.

Here is Martha and Campbell and Campbell and Jillian hanging out poolside. Luckily, the weather was not too bad so they were able to stay out and partake in the scenery a bit longer.

Here is a quick picture of Campbell and a full head of hair. We're thinking that it's changing from red to a more brownish color. What do you think?

Lastly, here's Campbell showing us what she thought of her trip . . . . hmmm . . . I'd say that she's happy and enjoyed herself.

I had a really good week so my mommy and daddy said that we can go back to Myrtle Beach. My daddy has to go to a workshop. We're going to stay with the Beck's again (Susan, Andy, Evan and Jillian) at the same place as last time. It's going to be soooo much fun. Maybe Jillian and I can hand out at the pool and check out all the boys! =) My daddy wanted me to tell you that we'll post when we return sometime next week.

My First Trip to Myrtle Beach

Peeps,
Wow, what a weekend! I took my first trip this weekend and out of all destinations, I went to Myrtle Beach, SC. My daddy and his co-worker did a presentation for the Summer Leadership Conference. Mommy and I went, as well as his co-worker (Susan) and her husband (Andy), and two kids (Evan 4 and Jillian 9 months). We stayed in a two bedroom suite and we had soooooooo much fun. I decided that I was going to give my mommy and daddy a break and I was on my best behavior on the way down. I slept most of the way. Once I arrived, I decided that I'd check out the view from the porch.

The next morning, Father's Day, my daddy strapped me in this crazy contraption and we went to the beach. It was very sunny, however, my mommy bought me some cool shades. Oh, while were were out there, I think daddy was trying to trick me . . . it sounded just like my sound machine which is in my bedroom.

After that, I needed to take a nap in my awesome boppy lounger (thanks Amy and Louisa)!!!
The funny thing is that my mommy and daddy "thought I was taking a nap." Silly them!

Later that day, we hung out at the pool with one of my BFFs. Her name is Jillian and she's 9 months old. Check me out in my bathing suit, hat, and shades! (before you call DSS - don't worry, my mommy and daddy ran me to the pool, kicked some man out of his seat, took a picture, then ran me back inside)

After my adventures at the beach, I needed to catch some rays. I was napping when BFF Jillian came to see me. She wanted to talk about the cute 12 month old by the pool . . . he made googly eyes toward us!

All in all, I had a great trip. I slept all the way home and for another hour before waking up. I think I was so well behaved that my mommy and daddy are going to do this again next week. But this time, it will be for 4 nights instead of 2. My daddy and Andy have a workshop to go to so we'll leave Sunday and return on Thursday. That means I get to hand out with my BFF Jillian and her cute brother again! It's going to be a lot of fun!

One a side note . . .you want to know why I'm a much better smiler now . . . one word . . . Wii. You should see daddy play the Wii. Andy and Susan brought one with them and it was hilarious. After the first few minutes, it was evident that daddy need the "sissy strap" strapped to his wrist. I swear that the Wii controler, and daddy, just about went through the TV. He was bowling . . . I don't think he realizes that in Wii bowling, running up to the TV (like running up to the lane) doesn't help . . . it only makes him look silly. However, it was Father's Day, so I let him think I was smiling at him doing so good . . . hehe.

Before I forget, Susan, Andy, Evan, and Jillian . . . thanks for being part of my first trip to the beach . . . you all made it sooooo much fun and memorable. Thanks! We should do it again . . . how's next Sunday? Maybe my mommy and daddy will let me hang out with you in the pool? (please mommy . . . I promise to be real good!)

Well peeps, I'm up, bathed, fed, and I'm going back to bed for the night. One day we'll all have to plan a trip to the beach. However, knowing my daddy, I'll have to be 43 years old before he lets me go "unchaperoned."

A special daddy

I'm sure all of you can tell how great a father Robbie is through this blog and how he is in person. I don't often post here on the blog, but today on Father's Day, I had to take this chance to tell you all about him.

Before Campbell was born I was put in the hospital "indefinitely". How many husbands would spend every night on a very uncomfortable couch so their wives wouldn't have to be alone in the hospital? After she was born, he was never less than positive about her progress and could always make me realize how lucky we were. He was my rock when she got an infection and had to be intubated and I fell to pieces. He was never afraid to question the doctors and nurses and was definitely Campbell's and my best advocate when I was too nervous to "rock the boat."

How many first time daddies would want to "feed" their baby by pushing milk with a syringe into a feeding tube and change a diaper that was smaller than his cell phone? Robbie would often push me to do more with Campbell even when I was scared. He was more excited about me holding her for the first time than I was...his bravery was inspiring. Many of you commented on the blog about how "brave" and "positive" we were. I assure you, I was not the model for those qualities...but Robbie was.

What kind of man coaches a basketball team for 3 and 4 year olds when he doesn't have a child on the team? What kind of man takes his 6 year old nephew to Washington DC and New York City by train just for a "guy's weekend"? What kind of man gets up in the middle of the night to change and feed his little girl...every night even when he has to work the next day? Robbie is that kind of man.

I am so blessed to be married to such a wonderful man. He is the most giving, generous, thoughtful husband a woman could ask for. Campbell is a lucky little girl to have Robbie for a daddy and I'm lucky to have him for a husband.

I love you, Robbie!!!

What a difference TWO MONTHS makes!

As Martha was giving Campbell a bath today, we realize that today is her two month anniversary from coming home. Back then she was 4lbs 11oz, today she's 8lbs 3oz. Back then she woke up every 3 hours on the dot for feedings, now we're anywhere between 3 and 5 hours. (last night was a 5 hour night!!!).

Rest In Peace - a farewell and goodbye

Rock Hill, SC - Campbell's Apnea Monitor has left us and gone to a better place.

Entered our lives on April 9, 2008, the apena monitor has lived a wonderful, an very beneficial life. She was attached to Campbell Compton, and has been inseparable ever since. Very early on, the monitor knew it's purpose and lived its life filling this purpose on a daily basis. The monitor never let us down. Because of the monitor, Campbell has lived a better life. Know by family and friends as "Campbell's temper alarm."

Surviving are her partner, Campbell Ann; Campbell's parents, Robbie and Martha; sisters, Norah and Folly.

The farewell will be on Thursday (6/5/08) at 11:00am at Campbell's home.

Memorials may be made to the Campbell College Fund which is being held by Family Trust Credit Union.
