5 on Friday

Finally...a 5 on Friday!  I still have several "catching up" posts to do but I wanted to take a few minutes to look back over this past week or so.

Here are just 5 of the reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  The girls are loving gymnastics and we have so much fun watching them!

 2. We had to talk to Maggie's teacher because she recently has said some unusual things.  There is one little girl at school who apparently is her "rival" (and has a very similar name but I'll change the names here to protect the innocent).  Maggie told us:  1) Lucy (classmate) says "I don't eat yogurt and she's going to cut me with a knife."  Then yesterday morning Robbie had a shaving cut on his chin.  Maggie asked him about it and then asked if this little girl did it to him!  She also told us "girls can't go potty outside only boys can." When we asked her teacher about the "potty outside" comment she said, "Oh I thought you were going to say something about yesterday. I was reading a book about a hen and I told the kids that a hen was a girl chicken. John (3 year old) classmate) yelled "because she has a vagina."  We just have to laugh!

3. We have a telescope that Grandma Compton got Campbell for Christmas in our living room.  Maggie was looking through it yesterday and saying "I can't see you Mommy!" and "I can see the moon!"  If only she had been looking through the correct side...

 4. Robbie is coaching Campbell's soccer team.  After their second practice, he asked her how it was.  She said "Just a little boring." :)

If you ask her what she likes about soccer, her response is "the playground." 

5.  Maggie is such a sweetheart.  She loves to grab our faces with her little hands and say "I love you" or she'll just hug our legs out of the blue and say it.  The other night I went to my triathlon class and got back after they were in bed.  When I walked into their room to say good night, Maggie said with great enthusiasm and surprise: "Mommy, you came back to us!" as if I'd been gone a week rather than a weekend.  She kept saying it over and over and even got out of bed and ran to Robbie in the living room to let him know Mommy had come back to her.  She makes us feel loved!  I had to add this picture because she's just so darned cute!

We had tons of fun this past Sunday celebrating St. Patrick's Day at our downtown's celebration!

The weather could not have been more perfect!  The girls enjoyed getting their faces painted, sliding down the big slides, jumping in the bounce houses, and playing mini golf!

 

 

Catching up...Valentine's Day

This year's Valentine's Day celebrations started a few days early with Robbie escorting Campbell to her first father/daughter dance at a local church.  She was so excited and requested a "pink dress with hearts".  Luckily I have a friend (Pickles da Clown...no joke, we are friends with a celebrity) who can make anything, so she created the dress of Campbell's dreams.  Campbell picked out a special pink bow tie for Robbie to wear and he got her a sweet wrist corsage.

 

Maggie had to jump in for a couple of pictures!  She can't wait to go next year.

All in all, Robbie and Campbell had fun at the dance.  Campbell's favorite part was the heart shaped balloon that she chased around all evening. I think this might be the start of a fun tradition for them!

Bring Your Daughter To Work Day

Campbell's been asking for about a month to come to work with me (Robbie). I finally took her today (3/11) as today is her first day of spring break. Our day started off like any Monday would ... At Starbucks.

After getting settled, her next stop was HR. All employees need an ID badge (a surprise to me from one of my coworkers) and business cards.

Now it's official .... Time to get to work. It wasn't long before I got her answering phones, returning emails, and opening letters.

Honestly, I anticipated that we'd be back on the road sometime shortly after 9:30. To my amazement, she lasted a full day (thanks to some amazing coworkers). She even made it through a 45 minute phone conference with the SC Department of Education. She did great!  I'd love to take her with me every day. She'd make a great Assistant to the Director of Student Services.

Catching up...Gymnastics

The girls started gymnastics in January.  They are both in the same class (pre-school girls) and are loving it!  Their favorite activities are the balance beam and jumping into the pit filled with foam squares.  

Funny story about their gymnastics outfits:  my mom wanted to buy them new gear so she went to the shop without them to check it out.  She called me and said "some of them are pretty bright" but I re-assured her that I was fine with them picking out whatever they wanted.  They're only little once, right?  Of course, that was until I saw their outfits... This is the picture my mom sent to me from the store.  Apparently, Campbell chose hers because it was the "softest". Sure enough, purple leopard print velour is pretty soft.  Maggie chose hers...well probably because it was the brightest thing there.  At least I can pick them out from the crowd!

They are getting more comfortable in the class every day.  At first Robbie had to do the stretches with them but now they (and by "they", I mean Maggie) are more independent and he actually just gets to watch from the sidelines.  It's pretty darn cute.

They also really love getting their suckers at the end for a reward for their hard work!

Catching Up...Campbell's Birthday Party

It's still hard to believe that Campbell is 5. This year she wanted to have a party at Baxter's Bunch for all of her friends.  The kids had a blast!  

I want to say a special thank you to my friend, Sabrina, who owns Buds n' Branches, for making Campbell's adorable shirt!

Robbie and I also got to celebrate Campbell's birthday at her school.  She opted to bring powdered sugar and chocolate mini donuts for their special snack.  

"Dr. Compton"

The girls and I are so excited to announce that Robbie is now "Dr. Compton"!  After 5 years of hard work, he successfully defended his dissertation and now has a Ph.D. in Education Leadership.

We celebrated as a family by going to the Melting Pot.  I was a little nervous between the sharp implements and the hot liquid, but we still had a great time.  The girls enjoyed wearing their special shirts:

I was excited to surprise Robbie with a party in his honor for some of our friends and family.  When we walked in and he realized who was all there, he appeared pretty shocked.

We are so happy that friends and family from all over the state could join us!  We enjoyed visiting with everyone!  There were several yummy cakes (one of which was brought by one of his co-workers with our picture on it.  It was a hit with the kids who were there who enjoyed deciding which Compton they wanted to eat :) ) and other great food.  Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate!
