5 on Friday

Here are 5 reason I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  Maggie has learned that when she is bored when we're sitting at a restaurant or shopping in a store, she can ask to go the bathroom and that will result in her getting away from whatever bored her. Often when we would get to the bathroom, she would sit on the potty and then tell me she couldn't go. I usually respond with "oh, a false alarm?"  Well, now she'll sit on the potty, look at me and smile, and say "oh, it's a faws awarm!" when she doesn't really need to go...

2. Robbie loves thunderstorms and he has instilled this love into the girls (which is a blessing since they aren't afraid of thunder!).  During summer afternoon thunderstorms, sometimes they like to just sit on the front porch and watch the rain.  They also love to sing/scream/yell at the top of their lungs the lyrics to "Rain, rain, go away".

3.  When I sing "You are my sunshine to the girls" every night, I apparently starting humming an extra verse when I was singing to Maggie.  Now, if I try to get away with not humming, Maggie quickly reminds me to "sing hmm, hmm, Mommy!"

4.  When we take Campbell grocery shopping, she likes to walk rather than ride in the buggy.  That is, until it is time to put all the bagged groceries into the basket at which time she likes to be covered in the groceries...Don't ask me why.

5. Campbell had some trouble sleeping last night so I laid with her for about 20 minutes around 1:00 am.  I leaned something interesting during this time: Maggie talks, laughs, and plays with toys in her sleep. No joking.  I heard her say several words including "sleeping" and "Campbell". I even checked to make sure  she was actually asleep. Once when I looked over, she was waving her Minnie Mouse doll around while sound asleep. So crazy.

A Texas Reunion

Like I mentioned in my Five on Friday,  we took a trip to Texas to visit our good friends and former neighbors, the Pope family.  The girls loved the flight (Campbell's first she could remember and Maggie's first ever) and I was thanking the good Lord for the invention of the iPad!

Eleanor and her dad, Nakia, were there to meet us at the airport.  The big girls were so excited to see each other!

We went back to their house to play for a few minutes.  Maggie and Emerson had a great reunion, too!

That evening we went to watch Eleanor's ballet recital. Before the performance, the big girls went and got a treat to eat.

 I was so happy we made it to see her performance.  She was the happiest little ballerina I've ever seen.

Maggie had a hard time sitting for the performance so Robbie took her out for a while.

The next day we went to a park in the morning and then to the Stockyards to try to see a cattle drive...  Only we missed the cattle drive due to having to wait for a train to pass.  Oh well, we walked around and saw some sights and ate some cupcakes and then went and had Tex/Mex for dinner.  Yummy!

The next day we had to take Robbie to the airport to get back for work.  Meanwhile, the kids had a great time at a local sprayground.

We spent a very hot morning at the Dallas Arboretum where they had an Alice in Wonderlands exhibit.  The flowers and plants at the Arboretum are amazing, although I don't know that the kids really appreciated them like Sarah and I did!  They really enjoyed the little splash area which was an extra special blessing due to the heat.

The big girls were so sweet together, even in their sleep.

We were so sad to say goodbye on Wednesday.  It was a great trip and it was like we had never been apart. Since returning home, Campbell has asked repeatedly when we will return to Texas.  She even wanted to know if we could move there!  While it won't be soon that we get to go back to Texas, I know we will go back in the future to see our special friends.

5 on Friday- quirky words edition

This week we are out of town and I'm doing this post from my phone so no pictures (but I'm almost done with a Texas trip post with a lot of pictures) that I will post when we get back.

So this week, here are 5 things my girls say that I love:

1. Often when we tell Maggie something (it can be something new or a reminder), she will respond with the cutest "Oh! I s'got!" Which means, when translated, "Oh! I forgot!" 

2. Campbell calls our neighbors "nayvors" and our neighborhood "nayvorhood" even though we've had several conversations about the "b" sound versus the "v" sound...

3.  Maggie calls hand sanitizer "hanitizer".

4. Campbell and Maggie had a very heated discussion today about whether the candy Campbell was eating was a lollipop or a sucker. It led us to wonder "What are the defining characteristics of each?"  Any thoughts out there?

5. While this one is kind of common, I still love it: Maggie calls spaghetti "pisketti".

These little language quirks are so sweet I think...  I might use this post as a place for me to come back to and add as I think of more.  Such as:

Campbell called her paci a "papi"

Maggie used to call Campbell "Hambell"

5 on Friday

Here are 5 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1. We traveled this week to Texas to visit the Pope family (our friends and former neighbors).  I will do a complete blog post about it this weekend but for now, I just have to say how great the girls were on the flight. Campbell kept exclaiming "This is awesome!" and then when we were landing kept announcing "We're going down!" (which was even funnier since it was kind of an inappropriate thing to yell on an airplane).

2.  The girls and I went to our local children's museum today.  They were having so much fun running around and playing together.  One of the employees said: "They are such great playmates, aren't they!"  I couldn't agree more.  Of course, they fight and squabble over toys and sharing, but in general they play so well together.

3.  Maggie announced the other night "Campbell is my vewy best fwend in the whole wide world!"

4.  Campbell definitely has a sweet tooth.  She set up a "picnic" for us in the living room recently...notice almost all of the foods are sweets!  I promise our play kitchen is also well-stocked with healthier food options :)

5. Maggie's last day at School Days was last Friday.  While we are excited that she will start Macfeat in the fall, we are very sad to leave the people at SD.  Maggie started there when she was just a baby (14 months) and has grown up with the ladies and kids there.  Her BFF, Winn, joined her at their "waving window" one last time.

5 on Friday

Here are 5 reasons I'm loving my silly girls this week:

1.  This week we re-joined the YMCA so we could start one of our favorite summer activities: spending hours at the Baxter YMCA Waterpark.  I wish everyone could have seen how happy and excited they were when they got in the water.  Especially our little fish, Campbell!

2.  The girls are so excited about life right now: the pool, our upcoming trip to Texas, summer getting ready to start, etc that they are having a hard time falling asleep at night.  One night I went to check on them before I went to bed and was surprised to find them in each others' beds!  With each others' sleeping bags (yes, they both sleep in sleeping bags these days).  Another night I went in there to find this on the bedpost:

 One morning Maggie was so sleepy from staying up late that she kept saying "My eyes don't work!" which was because she hadn't opened them yet... I keep telling myself that they are making memories...

3. We had our first picnic by the pool one evening this week.  This summer will be full of picnic lunches and dinners by the pool at the waterpark.  We learned last year that having a picnic dinner there occasionally is extra special since Daddy can join us after he gets off work.

 

By the way- I love the Ziploc 3-compartment containers for these picnics (and for the kids' school lunches!).  They are cheap, they don't leak, the compartments are sealed seperately, and they have survived 2 years of dishwasher action!

4.  Every morning when I'm taking the girls to school, Campbell loves to call her Daddy.  Since the recent iPhone update, she has been FaceTiming with him and it's even better.  It's so sweet to hear their little conversations.

5.  Maggie has learned a new pose.  She calls it her silly face and many times this week, she has been eager to show us her silly face.  She says she learned it at her school...
