A Baby K'tan Update

Since I originally posted about the Baby K'tan carrier (here), my (and Maggie's) love affair with it has continued to grow.

She slept through a baseball game in it... (using the hug hold)

She slept through dinner at the Olive Garden in it (using the cradle hold)
She slept through the SC Aquarium in it... (using the hug hold)

She helped me clean the house in it... (using the adventure hold)
We use the K'tan almost every time we go anywhere, especially if I am alone with the girls.  Today we went to Kohl's and Hobby Lobby and I wore Maggie because when she's in her carseat in the shopping cart, there is no room for stuff!  Whenever we go anywhere where she might be tired (like my sister's engagement party), I take the K'tan because she'll nap like a champ!

I recently found out there is a version called the K'tan Breeze which is made a mesh material.  I wish I had known about that version this summer because my only complaint is that it gets hot.  So, if you are looking into baby carriers, I continue to highly recommend the K'tan!

Maggie's Baptism

Today Maggie was baptized in the same church Campbell was baptized in 2 years ago and Martha was baptized in 20+ years ago (and by the same pastor!).  We were so blessed to have several of our family and friends there and over at Nana and Pop's house for brunch afterwards.

We had the girls' pictures made yesterday in their dresses.  Unfortunately we were so busy today we didn't take too many pictures (my sister took some so I'll add those as soon as she sends them) but the girls were so cute in their matching dresses.

(remember you can answer this even if you're not part of the official check in):
What is your favorite healthy recipe?
(this time, please post the recipe or a link to it!)

Martha's Update:
I lost a pound this week.  I wish it was more but since I'm still breastfeeding (pumping), I'm nervous about restricting my calories too much since I can't afford to hurt my milk supply (I barely make enough for Maggie as it is...).  I also "only" exercised 3 times (I say "only" because even though that was less than my goal, it's more than I used to exercise!).  My goals for this coming week are to exercise 4 times and I'm looking forward to going for a run with my sister Sara on Saturday!

One of our favorite healthy recipes is this recipe for whole wheat banana bread.  I make it with applesauce instead of oil and bake in muffin tins for about 15 minutes.  So yummy!

Just for fun, here is a video of Campbell exercising with me to Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred DVD.  Please excuse my huffing and puffing as I was trying to videotape and exercise at the same time :)

Maggie Tries Avocado for the First Time!

For weeks (okay months), I've been trying to convince Martha to feed Maggie real food. Martha has held fast to her 6 month rule. I did some persuasion and got her to agree to 5 months. Well, today is 1 day before Maggie turns 5 months . . . .and Martha caved. She fed her avocado.

I'll let you be the judge on if Maggie liked it or not . . . .

Emily was a great jumper!

Whee!

Just hangin' around
Emily's mom, Adrienne, and I have been friends since high school!
Uh, oh, I hope Robbie doesn't see this picture ;)
Striking a pose
Maggie had fun, too!

Campbell is eyeing that cake!

Must have been good!

Martha's Update:
I lost 2 pounds!  Whoopee!  I didn't do great with my eating, but I exercised a ton (2 30 minute runs and 2 walks while pulling the girls in the wagon).  My goal for next week is to workout 4 times again and not have any non-diet soda or sweet tea.

Also, I'm really proud to be back in pre-Maggie jeans.  Now onto my pre-Campbell jeans and then my pre-wedding jeans!

Robbie's Update:
No loss or gain. Same struggles and goals as last week (portion sizes and exercise).

Our current favorite healthy recipe:
Crockpot shredded chicken on whole wheat soft taco shells

A visit with old friends

When Robbie and I lived in Columbia, we had awesome next door neighbors, Ashleigh and Joe Dickerson.  We had so much fun hanging out with them and we just really enjoyed being neighbors and friends.  They moved from Columbia about the same time we did and we haven't seen each other since then.  Until last night when they stopped in for dinner on their way to Columbia.  It was just like old times except now we had the girls and they had Grayson (and are expecting #2).

Here is Ashleigh holding Miss Maggie.

Campbell loved Grayson (even if she had some trouble sharing her toys with him).  They were so cute playing together!  They look like they could be brother and sister with that blond hair and blue eyes.

A tooth!

Maggie's first tooth finally came through this week!  She's been working on it for a few weeks so there's been lots of finger-chewing and drooling going on.

Question of the Week
(remember you can answer this even if you're not part of the official check in):
What is your favorite healthy recipe for something sweet?

Martha's Update:
I'm only down a pound, but that's impressive because I only exercised once (the 5K) and I really didn't do well with my eating.  I struggled with making time to work out and making healthy food choices.  So my goal for this coming week is to exercise at least 4 times (already did one today with another walk pulling the wagon, this time with Campbell and her friend Eleanor while I was wearing Maggie) and to not drink sweet tea or non-diet soda.

Robbie's Update:
Down 2 pounds but struggled with portion sizes.  Did exercise twice (5K and the Y).  Goal for this week: work out 3 times and be cognizant of portion sizes.

Our favorite healthy sweet recipe:

Race for the Cure

We ran our 1st 5K as a family today.  I'm proud to say we made our goal of running the first two miles and then alternated running and walking for the last mile.  We will be doing more of these in our quest for family fitness.  It was tough, but we all enjoyed a feeling of accomplishment!

Here we are before the race

During the race...don't let the smile fool you...I was dying!
After the race
