6 on Sunday

Here are 6 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1. We talked to Campbell's teacher this week at a kindergarten parents' meeting.  She re-iterated something we already knew: Campbell is a very caring child.  There is a child in her class who is very shy and speaks no English.  She has really taken to him and tries every day to get him to play with her at recess.  We have always known how caring she is (and actually heard a similar story from her teacher last year in preschool) but it's always nice to hear that other people see and appreciate her caring spirit.
With this in mind, we might be grooming her to follow in our professional footsteps...

2.  You never know how you'll find our girls when they're sleeping...

3.  I recently bought the girls some princess socks.  Maggie decided they make the perfect sock puppets.  Ariel and Cinderella had an interesting conversation about being princesses!

4.  This week we learned Campbell had a debt of $6.00 in her lunch account of school.  We were very confused by this as we have always sent either a lunch box or $2.00 to pay for her lunch.  We were about to email her teacher and demand to know where the mistake came from when I asked Campbell about buying lunch on days she had her lunch box.  She quickly and innocently 'fessed up to buying lunch on days when it was "hot dog day and Mommy forgot".  Apparently she thought she could get lunch on any day they served hot dogs since they are her favorite.  The things we didn't think to spell out to our kindergartener... ;) 

5.  Maggie took her first "selfie"!

 

6. Campbell got in the car one day this week after school and asked if we could decorate for Halloween.  I thought that was a great idea!  It's one of our favorite holidays!

 

6 on Saturday

Here are 6 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  The girls love watching Finding Nemo and Campbell and I love one particular moment.  It's when Darla screams "Fish in my hair!"  We both look at each other and giggle whenever we see it and it's something special that we share.  Enjoy this clip:



2.  Maggie made a family "portrait" at school.  I found it really interesting that she apparently doesn't see skin color and I was proud of that.  Campbell, however, was very unhappy with the length of her head's hair...

3.  We celebrated Robbie's mom's birthday at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants this week.  Rather than a birthday cake, we ordered 3 molten chocolate lava cakes to share.  Let's just say Campbell finished all 3 with just a little help from the rest of us!

4. Maggie is such a goofball.  Wonder where she got that from?  She looks pretty good in Robbie's fencing helmet.

5.  I admit that this school year I was worried about all of the changes for Campbell, including her having to go to afterschool care ("Challenger").  She proved to me those fears were silly when I asked her this week if she had a wonderful day and her response was "Yes".  When I asked what was wonderful, she said "Challenger. I love it!"  She loves playing on the playground after school with her friends.  If I happen to arrive too early to pick her up (in her opinion), she lets me know!  "Mommy, I didn't hear all the story" or "Mommy, but I didn't get to play very long."  What a relief.

6.  The girls and I went on a picnic today at Campbell's request. We took a blanket and lunch to Winthrop Lake and had the "best picnic ever" according to Campbell.  I also took the camera with my new lens and took some pictures of the girls playing and feeding the ducks.

6 on Sunday

Since I'm late this week, it's not a 5 on Friday but a 6 on Sunday!

Here are 6 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  Maggie likes to call giving us a tight hug around our necks "squeeze your brain" :)

2.  We love hearing about all the new friends that Campbell is making in kindergarten.  We asked her one day this week about the name of one of the boys she was playing with.  She said "I don't know his name, but everyone calls him Will."  Ok....

3. Robbie got me a new lens for our camera for my birthday.  I got it out and told the girls to pose for a picture to let me try it out...this is what I got:

4.  Maggie was playing with my phone one evening.  She managed to take this picture, post it to Facebook, AND make it my profile picture.  Pretty talented, I think!

5.  Campbell spent all weekend working on writing and illustrating a book.  She finished it today during Maggie's nap and read it to her after her nap (hence Maggie wearing her pajamas in the video).
 


6.  And last, but definitely not least, Campbell got her cast off!  She was so happy to be free and so were we!  It's been a long 5 weeks (but could have been much longer).  I'm glad to be done with sponge baths in the sink (for both girls- Maggie refused to be left out of those!) and happy that Campbell is healed and not in pain or suffering from having a hot, itchy cast.  We celebrated by going to the indoor pool at the Y and swimming.  We had all really missed our pool time!

5 on Friday

Here are 5 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  Some friends recently gave us two free tickets to Carowinds.  Robbie has been wanting to take Campbell all summer so he was very excited.  Luckily, Maggie had school on Labor Day but Campbell was off.  I needed to run 7 miles that morning as part of my half-marathon training so it was the perfect day for their adventure.  Despite a pretty strict "cast policy", they had a blast!

2.   The girls have gotten very involved in playing with their American Girl dolls every since our trip to the AG store this summer.  While this sometimes includes crying because "Elizabeth" missed an imaginary dance lesson or having to change "Ruthie" into her pajamas at night and back into her dress for the day, it is really fun to watch and participate in.  Last night when I went to tuck the girls in before I went to bed, I found Maggie and her mini-me in identical poses.

3.  One of the girls' favorite toys is their Disney hair care set.  They love to fix our hair, each others' hair, and their dolls' hair.  I enjoyed it until Campbell told me the other night that I needed a "fix over" aka a makeover...kinda hurt my feelings ;). 

4. I recently ran across a picture of Campbell's first day of preschool in August 2012 (4 year old preschool).  She was wearing the same outfit I dressed Maggie in for her first day of preschool this year!  I couldn't believe it.  I had forgotten about it (I knew the outfit was similar but I thought it was a different color).  It's interesting to me for a few reasons: 1. Campbell was 4 and Maggie was 3 when they wore it, 2. the outfit it from Wal-Mart but I thought it was cute enough for first day pictures...but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the skirt has to be ironed so it's not worn that often, and 3. that they both looked so darn cute in it!  Here is a comparison (the colors look different due to the camera setting but it definitely is the same outfit):

5.  We have been trying to teach the girls about "privacy", especially in regards to the bathroom.  They have both recently been asking for privacy in the bathroom and I think it's hilarious!
