Happy Birthday . . . Take Two!

Campbell's 2nd Birthday Party: 2nd Attempt was much more successful than our first try!  After missing a whole week from school to make sure she was fully recovered from the RSV and possible pneumonia, she seemed to be feeling much better and ready for her party!

Originally we were going to have an Elmo themed birthday party...that was until Campbell saw these plates in the store and HAD.TO.HAVE.THEM!

Going with the new Sesame Street theme, Martha made these cute favor bags for the guests.

Campbell's Aunt Beth made the adorable Elmo cake. It survived being in the freezer for a week and was delish!

Present time was crazy!  If anyone has suggestions for how a toddler can open presents (with lots of friends to help!) in an organized way, I'd appreciate them for the future!

The Becks brought over the Mentos experiment from Mythbusters.  The boys really enjoyed it...even if Ethan did end up soaking wet!

The Becks also brought Robbie this Elmo shirt (and they all dressed in red, too! so cute!).  He fit in well with all the Elmo decor!

It was a great party and we're so happy that some of our friends made it.  We want to give "props" to our 8 year old nephew, Ethan, for most of the photography...especially the more artistic shots!  Great job!

We missed the Anders, the Carneys, the Mullers, and the Greens due to our having to re-schedule but totally understand!  Love y'all!

Happy Birthday Campbell . . . Campbell Turns Two!!!

So today was the big day . . . Campbell's Elmo (and Abby) themed birthday party. We invited 12 of Campbell's closest friends.

Cute right . . . well . . . here is the rest of the story . . . this past Tuesday we took her to the doctor for a persistent cold and fever. He diagnosed her with an ear infection and put her on antibiotics. We went back yesterday for her scheduled 2 year check up and and she had no fever and was acting fine but she was wheezing so he added nebulizer treatments to the antibiotics.

Campbell woke up with a fever this morning. We thought the fever might have been due to the vaccination that she received. Well . . . it got worse and worse throughout the day. Ibuprofen was only keeping her fever down for an hour at at time. So after she woke up from her nap 45 minutes in and she had a fever, we made the call to cancel the party . . . sooo sad. Well to add insult to injury . . . around 3:30, she began shivering and her lips turned blue. After consulting Dr. Julie (Martha's sister) and Nurse Nana (Martha's mother), and her real nurse which happened to be "online" in Facebook, we decided that we needed to head to the ER. The worry was that she might have pneumonia.

Well after a two-hour stay Campbell has been diagnosed with RSV and a spot on her lungs which could be pneumonia or could just be the virus. The doctors ordered a shot of rocephin which had to be given in two doses in her bum . . . poor girl! Well, now we are home and Campbell is resting nicely. We'll keep you updated on Campbell's prognosis!

Maggie Update (almost 24 weeks)

We had an appointment yesterday with the specialist for a growth ultrasound. Maggie looks perfect! She is weighing in at 1 lb, 6 oz which is right on track. The doctor checked her growth, the amount of amniotic fluid, and blood flow through the placenta and umbilical cord. He said that often if pre-eclampsia were going to reoccur as early as last time, that we should see some sign (low fluid, poor blood flow) by now. Since everything looks perfect, he is very optimistic.

We go back in about 2 and 1/2 weeks to see her again and re-check everything. Hopefully we'll have good pictures to post then...she wasn't too cooperative yesterday when we tried to take good pictures. They might even do a 3-D ultrasound next time for us!

To celebrate our good appointments, I'm going to join Robbie in New Orleans next week for a couple of days where he'll be at a conference. Robbie has been trying to convince me for months to go, but I've procrastinated making a decision due to not knowing how the pregnancy would go. Since everything is going very well, I decided it would be ok. We are excited about our little "baby-moon"!

Happy Birthday, Campbell! There will be another post Saturday after her little Elmo party (that has actually turned into an Elmo/Abby Cadabby Party since Campbell insisted upon picking out the Abby plates rather than the Elmo plates...oh well, it's her party and they're both on Sesame Street, right?!).

First "snow" of the season

Despite the warnings of inches of snow and ice, we got a mere dusting here...nothing like Winter Storm '09   The lack of inches didn't stop us from playing in it and trying out Campbell's new sled.  Ethan spent the night with us in hopes of waking up to lots of snow but he's been a great sport and even shoveled all the snow in our driveway to try to make snowballs...  We all had lots of fun and Campbell keeps going back to the door and demanding to go out!

Baby Girl Update

We are excited to announce that Baby Girl Compton #2 finally has a name!  Maggie Elizabeth Compton is the winning name.  Family names are very important to us...ok, to me Martha, so it meant a lot to find a name with connection to family.  Campbell's first name is my great-grandmother's maiden name and her middle name, Ann, is my middle name.  Maggie is the name my grandfather always called my grandmother (even though it wasn't actually her name).  She passed away when I was young but I've always heard about what a great woman she was so we are excited to honor her.  The name Elizabeth is popular in our family and includes my sister, aunt, grandmother, and cousin.

I had an OB appointment today and it went very well!  My blood pressure was 122/68 and everything else was perfect.  Maggie is a very active baby and when the dr was trying to hear her heartbeat, we could hear her moving.  Dr. McClelland also changed my due date to May 29th.  Originally we thought that would be the due date, but when we had our 1st ultrasound at 6 weeks, that doctor put the date at June 1st.  Dr. McClelland thought that since she's consistently measured ahead that the May 29th date is the most accurate.  I was happy because that means I'm 3 days further along than I thought which is 3 days closer to a healthy baby!  I have an ultrasound next week with the specialist to measure her growth.  We'll keep you posted!  Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers!

I can't wait . . .

Tonight we were filling up Campbell's bath and I guess she couldn't wait . . . she hopped in herself . . . shoes and all! I am not going to post that Martha was in Campbell's room getting her pjs ready and I was talking on the phone in the living room . . . that would just be irresponsible of us . . . no wouldn't it?

Sleepover

Campbell had her 1st sleepover with a friend this weekend. Our good friends, Adrienne and Rob, have a 3 year old named Emily who has been Campbell's bff practically since birth. Emily spent the night Saturday and we all had a blast!

Time Out

Where a kid can be a kid . . .

Campbell was able to spend the day with Nana, Ethan and Macy on Friday as we had to work and Campbell's preschool was closed. So Nana packed up the kids and took them to Chuck E. Cheese's . . .

20 weeks!

I wanted to update you all on this pregnancy.  Everything is going very well.  Of course, my OB and specialist both said that if anything goes wrong, it wouldn't happen until after 20 weeks...so we'll see.  My awesome OB, Dr. McClelland, who very accurately predicted Campbell's birth soon after I got sick, is confident this pregnancy will go well and he thinks if something does happen, it won't be until 34 weeks or later. 

I'm feeling pretty good.  My hips and back hurt occasionally due to sleeping on my side but I've been doing a pre-natal yoga video and it's been helping.  This baby is much more active than Campbell was at this time and it's been fun to feel her move.  Robbie has even been able to feel her kick.  My belly has definitely gotten bigger in the last few weeks and I'm hoping I'm beginning to look pregnant, rather than just chubbier :)  The Lovenox shots are getting more tolerable as I'm getting more used to them.  I am worried that as my belly gets bigger, it'll be harder to give the shots since I inject them into my belly.  We'll cross that bridge later, I guess...

So, right now I'm on the lookout for signs of problems such as swelling in my feet (had around 20 weeks with Campbell), hands, or face, headaches that don't go away, or stomach pain.  It's hard to predict since I didn't have any warning signs with Campbell (despite the early feet swelling) until I got sick at 26 weeks and we had her less than 2 weeks later.

My doctors are on the watch for rising blood pressure, protein in my urine,sudden weight gain, and restricted growth on ultrasounds.  These all can be signs of pre-eclampsia.  I got nervous at my 16 week appointment because my blood pressure was 134/78 (my highest this pregnancy) and I had a trace of protein.  Both of these can be normal but I freaked out.  Dr. McClelland was sure it was normal and when I went back the next week for a follow up, everything was normal.  While my blood pressure continues to be higher than my non-pregnant normal, it is within normal limits and it's common for blood pressure to rise during pregnancy. 

I go back next week for a routine visit with Dr. McClelland and then the following week to the specialist in Charlotte for a growth ultrasound.

First Haircut

We decided that it was time for Campbell to experience her first real haircut . . . other than her mother cutting down her mullet a few months back. We took her to Doolittles in Pineville (outside Charlotte).

A little bit better

Campbell seems to slowly feel a little better.  The sores in her mouth were worse yesterday and she refused most food and drink.  Our friend Crystal suggested a milkshake and sure enough, she drank quite a bit!

This morning she's pretty perky but we've  noticed the past few days that her mornings are much better than her afternoons, so this afternoon will be the true test.  She only woke up twice last night which actually worked out well because we could re-dose her with medicine.  Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for her health!
