Campbell Update

I figured it's time for a Campbell update...

She had her 18 month check up yesterday. Her stats were:
Weight: 22 lbs 10-25th percentile
Height: 29 and some inches 5-10th percentile
Head circumference: 50th percentile

Development updates:

Fine motor:
Great news! Campbell was dismissed from OT (occupational therapy) today because all of her fine motor skills were in the 17-19 month range. We would want them to at least be 15 months when adjusting for her prematurity, so this is great news! Campbell can stack 4 blocks, do simple shape puzzles, put pegs in a pegboard, and point.

Gross motor:
Campbell continues to make good progress but is still behind her same age peers, even when we adjust for prematurity. She just this week started taking 1-2 steps to get to Mommy but still doesn't stand on her own. She can cruise like a champ and is a crawling whiz.

Language:
We recently added speech therapy to her list of weekly therapies. We have been very impressed with her therapist and have seen a lot of progress. In a few short weeks, she has gone from not pointing to any pictures when named to consistently pointing to dog, bow (now, who's surprised by that one?), shoes, apple, balloon, and others. She also is saying more sounds, imitating more sounds and words, and babbling more. She consistently says daddy, doggy, hi, all done and has just begun saying a version of mama...finally! She signs more, all done, baby, open, wash, eat, drink, and please.

Since Robbie and Ethan had some special guy time (see Robbie's post below), Macy and I decided we should get some special girl time. So, we dropped Campbell off at Nana's and headed to the salon for Macy's first pedicure. Macy was a little nervous before we left, but she had a great time once we got there!

Macy chose a pretty shade of pink for her toenails.

She loved being pampered and asked when we were driving home:
"Can we get a pedicure tomorrow?"

Annual Summer Trip

Last year Ethan and I (robbie) took a train trip to Washington DC and New York . . . while there we saw the Yankees play. So this year I decided that each summer Ethan and I would go to a different ball park . . . thus the trip to Atlanta to see the Braves play.

To recap the trip, I'm going to attempt to do things differently . . . I'm going to try to tell the story from the perspective of my Facebook updates that I did throughout the weekend . . . here we go . . .

Within 5 minutes of being in the car to Atlanta . . . Ethan went straight to sleep!

Robbie Compton Pimento cheese a-plenty. Beacon in 30 minutes. It's Ethan's first time there.It's my job as uncle to expose him to such fine establishments!

I prepped him in the car to prepare him for ordering food at the Beacon . . . Here is Ethan shouting out his order to the famous Beacon order taker. (side note - the Beacon was featured on Food TV's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives)

This is Bryan . . . we met him for dinner too . . . The funny story about this picture is that Bryan and Ethan shared that banana split . . . Bryan started on the chocolate side and Ethan on the vanilla side . . . Ethan finished the vanilla, strawberry and half of the chocolate.

FRIDAY MORNING

Robbie Compton Ugh ... Damn you Beacon!

Another part of the Beacon experience is waking up the next morning and feeling like you couldn't eat for another few days.

Well, this morning on our agenda was to go to to the Georgia Aquarium . . . which we did. That place is amazing. Here are some of the pictures of our time there:

I think there is this debate between the Beacon versus Atlanta's Varsity . . . being open minded people that Ethan and I are, we decided to go check out "the varsity." I'll give it credit . . . it was nice and an experience like the Beacon is . . . but hands down . . . the Beacon was so much better!

Robbie Compton Just used life guarding skills and saved a 15 year old that was drowning in the hotel pool!

After lunch, we went back to the hotel pool and played around there for a hours. Ethan's only rule about hotels is that there has to be a pool. Well, we met this 15 year old boy there was was a non-swimmer. He kept asking Ethan and I "swimming" questions. After about an hour of working with him, he was able to swim across the pool in the deep end (8'). Well, Ethan and I were taking a break (relaxing in the chairs) when he decided to do a flip into the water (dummy)! Well, he panicked and began "bobbing" . . . the patrons at the pool began screaming as bobbing began . . . well, not really making it above the water level . . . so I jumped in and pulled him to the side!

After this, Ethan and I changed and began adventuring out to Atlanta since we had two hours before game time . . . we made it down to Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. The park is very nice and well kept. We found some neat sights along the way . . .

The game was a lot of fun. Our seats were not too bad and we quickly made friends with the people around us.


During the game, they has several contests . . . this was one of them.

SATURDAY

After breakfast, we took a walk down to the World of Coke . . . Ethan had told me for the past two weeks that he was going to drink 2 gallons of Coke at the World of Coke . . .

Robbie Compton Ethan is excited ... He just heard he can taste 64 flavors of Coke products in the testing room!

Robbie Compton Did all 64 coke flavors ... Ethan stopped at 10 ... Once he hit Vault!

That's right . . . Ethan did the first 8 just fine . . . then he went to the "North America" section . . . he took a drink of Sprite . . . then he filled up on Vault . . . he stopped after Vault. So he did 10 of the 64. Me on the other hand . . . I did all 64.

Just a word of caution, if you ever go to the World of Coke DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT drink Beverly from Italy . . . NASTY!!!! I searched "beverly and Italy" on google and found tons of videos on youtube just like this!

Hep Peeps . . . it's me . . . Campbell. It's been a while since I've been able to post . . . my mommy and daddy spend all there time on the computer leaving me no time to post on the blog or check into my FaceSpace.

Anyway, my daddy, who took 10 days off from the blog failed to mention that my BFF Emily came over and played with me last weekend. We swam together . . .

Played musical instruments together . . . .

And even found the time to Wii together . . .

This weekend was as special day for one of my NICU nurses Anna . . . she's 36 weeks pregnant and mommy and I were invited to her baby shower. She's going to have a girl . . . I'm so happy for her. Anna is very special to me and I cannot wait to meet Adah someday!

Finally, about my daddy . . . he has something called a crackberry and he's always playing on it . . . and I have the proof to show you. I secretly stole the camera and shot this footage. Warning, the video is intended for grownups . . . there is video of my daddy in his boxers.

Well ta-ta for now my peeps . . . it's time for my afternoon nap.

We're still here . . .

Have no fear . . . we're still here . . . I took a week off from posting and I do not think I'll do that again. We had people calling us seeing if we were okay . . . we are, it's just been a busy week around the Compton household.

Enough about us . . . onto the real reason check out our blog . . . CAMPBELL!

Campbell still isn't too sure what to do with the bubbles that I put in her bath . . . but here she is looking all cute.

Speaking of baths . . . it's so nice that Campbell can now assist in the washing process:

Martha took the kids back to the zoo . . . this time they ventured up to the Botanical Gardens and to the penguin aquarium.

Campbell is also getting more and more adventurous with the "indoor" slide.



It's amazing how mobile she is getting. Today she even attempted a step without holding on to anyone for support . . . our little girl is growing up so quickly!

Today we took the kids bowling . . . Martha and I, with Campbell, Ethan, and Macy . . then Aunt Sa-Sa joined us . . . speaking of, can you believe that she is the one who said, "someone needs to come and get Campbell from me. She's heavy and I don't want to break a sweat!"

It's hard to see, but Campbell is holding a bowling ball and trying to move it closer and closer to the lane.

"Someone Come and Get this Baby!"

Can you believe that someone actually said that about my baby girl . . . "someone needs to come and get her . . . she's heavy and I don't want to break a sweat!" Believe it or not, it was said! I'm not going to call anyone out . . . I'll just let you vote (to the right). I'll reveal who said it on Thursday (hint . . . that person is pictured somewhere below).

On Thursday Martha packed up the kids (Ethan, Macy & Campbell) and they went to the zoo. They met my sister and her kids there (Matthew and Madeline). Since Sara (Martha's sister) and I work in Columbia we both made the trip over to the zoo to see them for lunch . . . what a nice break that was!

They both can eat corn on the cob!!!! Such big girls! We're so proud of them!!!!

In honor of Cow Appreciation day . . . the clan dressed up like cows . . . well sort of. This was our first Cow Appreciation day . . . let's just say, this year, we took notes . . . next year, we'll do it right!

On Saturday we went over to our friends Adrienne and Rob's house. They have a two year old named Emily . . . we think that Emily and Campbell could possibly be bffs when they get older. They both have the same style in clothes, music, and boys . . .

So the Comptons hit a baby milestone this weekend . . . we actually need to babyproof the house . . . why you ask?


Nana and Pop brought over something fun for Campbell to play with. It's really an outdoor toy . . . but we couldn't resist.

Okay . . . so we're still working on the sliding part of this contraption!

Finally, we've been working really hard with Campbell on her language development. Check out some of the progress we've made only in two weeks time!
