5 on Friday

Here are 5 of the reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1. Last week I took a personal day from work to go with Campbell on her class's field trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  We had lots of fun walking from her school to the Pumpkin Patch and looking through all of the pumpkins.

2.  I just love watching the girls playing with Robbie.  One evening this week he was pretending to be a bucking bronco with them on his back.  I just loved watching them having so much fun!

3.  We took the girls trick or treating in the dorms at Winthrop the night before Halloween.  We really enjoyed seeing them walk through the halls of our Alma Mater and interact with the college students.  Made us think a lot about "the good old days"! :)

Maggie showed me her candy and said excitedly: "I got M's!"

4.  When we went trick or treating on Halloween, Maggie decided at the last minute that she didn't want to be a pirate after all...she wanted to be a princess like Campbell and Eleanor.  Luckily we have a well-stocked dress up room!  Then, after I put the dress on her, we were getting ready to go and realized we couldn't find her.  She had gotten into my makeup bag... (by the way, if you notice that she's wearing all black it's because I had anticipated her wearing her pirate outfit, not the princess dress...)

We went by Campbell's teacher's house again this year.  It is always a big hit for the girls to go to her home.  I'm looking forward to doing this again for the next two years when Maggie is in her class!

5.  Campbell's message she wrote at church:

We love Fall!

We have been busy enjoying the fall weather and special activities recently!

We went to the apple orchard with the Pope kids and enjoyed apple and pumpkin donuts, face painting, and chicken chasing!  Of course, one of our favorite moments was when Maggie threw herself on the ground when she didn't get to sit on a pumpkin for the picture although she was the one who refused to sit there... (this is her new skill: temper-tantrum-throwing)

We took our annual trip to Cherry Place Farm with the Anders Family!  We love when we get to spend time with them!

We threw our annual Halloween Party.  We debated not having it this year just because we have so much going on, but decided to do it at the last minute and had tons of fun as usual!  The Compton Family dressed up as characters from the show Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  Maggie was Jake, Campbell was the Pirate Princess, Robbie was Cubby, and Martha was Izzy.  We didn't get a picture of the 4 of us but luckily got some of the kids!  The kids enjoyed bobbing for apples, doing a craft, eating yummy food, and playing together!

5 on Friday

It's here again!  5 of the reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  It was Fall Break at Campbell's school today, so my mom watched both girls (Maggie didn't want to be left out of the fun).  I  thought these pictures she sent me were so cute!  They had a blast heading to a local nursery with a playground and pumpkin patch!  Although, my mom was a little nervous about Maggie's bravery in this first picture...

2.  This past Sunday at church, Campbell became very interested in the flute player.  When she found out I had one from high school, we just had to get it out.  We've had fun playing with it...even if I'm just about as good as the girls are.  It's amazing what you forget in 20 years!

3.  It's a new era in our family: Maggie can finally wear jeans!  Up to this point, they were always too snug in the thigh and belly region :)  Isn't she so cute and doesn't she look so grown up?!

4.  Campbell loves to help us cook and it always so excited about the foods she makes.  In the fall, she and Robbie like to make pumpkin pie so this week they made their first.  Unfortunately, she got a little too excited and decided to pick the pie up and bring it to Robbie.  It didn't survive the trip.

She was pretty upset even when we scraped the part that didn't hit the floor and served it with a little cool whip.  She perked up the next day when they made a new one :)

5.  Campbell is growing up too fast!  She told us that she has a boyfriend and when I responded that she was too young, she said "well, I'm 4 and a half!"  Yeah, still too young, missy.  Here she is with her newest romance at his birthday party last week:

I know, I know...slack blogger here.  I'm going to try to be better, I promise! It's so hard once we're back in school and busy.  My time is taken up with spending time with the girls and trying to keep our household running.

But, at long last, here are 5 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1. Maggie is so, so sassy.  No wait, that's not it.  Sorry, I got distracted and accidentally typed that.  Maggie has such a sweet and caring spirit.  One night Campbell had a bad dream and woke up crying.  When I was trying to soothe her back to sleep, Maggie sat straight up in bed and asked in a very alarmed tone "Hambell otay?!"  Translation: "Is Campbell ok?"  It was so heart-warming to see how worried she was about her big sister.

2.  Campbell's teacher pulled me aside yesterday morning to tell me that she must have inherited my special ed teacher's heart. There is a little boy in her class with special needs and apparently she has be-friended him and makes sure to include him in classroom activities. Wednesday they were playing a group game and had to pass an item to a friend and she passed it to him when even the teacher wasn't sure he would/could participate. I'm so glad she sees what he can do rather than what he can't do! 

3. Maggie is so smart and a great problem solver.  She helps me check the mail every day and has to struggle to reach the mailbox.  She recently was walking down the driveway towards the mailbox and turned around and went back to the garage.  She picked up a step stool that she had been using as a jumping platform the day before and carried it to the mailbox, set it down, and used it to help her get the mail.  Pretty ingenious, huh?

4.   Campbell's new favorite activity is for her daddy to roll her up in a blanket like a burrito.  Reminds me of swaddling her when she was a baby except we are using a much bigger blanket.  I don't know where it came from but it's their "thing" right now. 

5.  I just love all the pictures we have of the girls...our generation is so lucky to have cameras so accessible! Here are some of my favorites from recent weeks:

My favorite part of having 2 girls is watching them be sisters!  They even share (sometimes!)
