6 on Saturday

Again, I hate that it's been a while since I did one of these posts...I love writing them and then reading them later so much!  I'm hoping that with only a few more days of school before summer break, I'll have more time and energy to be more consistent!

Here are 6 reasons I'm loving my girls this week:

1.  Recently, for the first time without prompting, Maggie reached up and hugged me and said "I wub you."  Translation= "I love you" and my heart melted!

2. Campbell has been very interested in relationships and status and who is who's boss.  She says things like "Daddy is the boss because he's older than you, Mommy." When I respond that not only is he not older than me, but that he's not my boss and I'm not his boss, she seemed very confused.  She also thinks Ms. Chamberlain, her teacher, is the boss of us all.  She told Robbie this week "No daddy, metal can't hurt you. Ms. Chamberlain told me. She knows more than you."

3.  Maggie has very definite opinions and one of those opinions is not very favorable of her Daddy's singing...check out this adorable video of her letting Robbie know exactly how she felt about it:

4. Robbie is determined to make Campbell into a golfer.  He even got her a toddler-sized left handed club.  They have gone together to hit golfballs several times and she loves it.  I wish that there were a ROAR golf league...

5. So, Robbie has talked frequently over the years about a cereal eating contest he won back in college.  Whenever we'd hear about some competitive food-eating event in our area, he'd talk about entering and winning it.  So, when I heard about a local bakery having a cupcake eating contest, I knew he'd be all over it.  And he was.  We had so much fun and the girls even got to participate in a kids' version.  Maggie ate 1/2 of a cupcake and Campbell came in 2nd place when she ate 3!  However, neither of them came close to Robbie's winning number of 16 cupcakes!  You heard that right, 16!  He even took a "victory round" and ate number 17 just for fun.  The 2nd runner up in his round only at 9 so he won by a lot!  It was a fun evening and one of so many memories we've made this month!

6.  Campbell finished her first year of preschool this week.  We have been amazed to watch her grow throughout the year.  We had a parent teacher conference this week and the teacher was full of praises for her academic and social skills.  Campbell can write her name, knows all of her letters and numbers, can count to 29 (then skips to 40), and do all kinds of other smart things.  She is sweet, is never in trouble, and has a lot of friends.  We were so proud!  Here she is with her teacher, Ms. Chamberlain, as well as a picture of her at Water Day on the last day of school.

Ahoy, Mateys! Maggie is 2!

It's hard to believe that Maggie turned 2 yesterday!  We started the day with a Compton tradition: the birthday girl's breakfast doughnut on the birthday plate!  Maggie loved it and Campbell was only a little jealous that she didn't get to use the birthday plate.

Both girls got to wear their number shirts (a clearance Gymboree score! Yay for me!) to school.

We had a nice dinner at Nana and Pop's house.  Nana made a special dessert (chocolate covered strawberries) just for Maggie!  Apparently Maggie thought she didn't have to have table manners since it was her birthday... (by the way, do those feet remind you of anyone's?  I'm pretty sure Maggie is following in Robbie's footprints...literally.  She wears a size 8 while Campbell is only in a 9 1/2-10. Poor girl has the Compton big-foot curse.  Her Daddy wears a size 17, her aunt a 12, and her grandmother an 11.  **Sigh** She'll probably outgrow my measly size 7s by the 3rd grade...;) )

We are so lucky that my sister, Julie, was able to come down for the week with her girls, Lydia and Eliza.  Maggie and Eliza really hit it of!

Today we had a Pirate Party at the park to celebrate Maggie turning 2.  It was a lot of fun and instead of treat bags, we provided all the kids with pirate swords, hats, eye patches, and tattoos to encourage some imaginative play.  We had it at a local park (thanks to Robbie going early to claim the picnic tables) so all the kids could run and play.

Of course, my friend Jaime at Fine Prints designed the invitations, cupcake toppers, and the girls' t-shirts.  She adapted her pirate design to make it more "girly" and it turned out so cute!  

A few weeks ago, Robbie won a cupcake eating contest at a local bakery and his prize was a gift certificate.  Ironically, we used it to buy the cupcakes for Maggie's birthday!  (I'll have to do a separate post about the contest...it was a riot and Robbie is looking forward to going back in July to defend his title.)

 So, all in all, I think Maggie enjoyed her birthday.  She got to spend time with her family and friends, eat yummy food, and play pirates.  Check back next week after her 2 year check up for a post about Maggie at age 2 with her stats (I'm pretty sure she'll weigh in at least at 30 pounds!).

Happy Mother's Day . . . a message from your girls

Hey Peeps,
It's Campbell and Maggie. It's been a while since we've been on here . . . mommy and daddy changed the password to get on the computer so it took us a few days to figure it out.  Speaking of, mommy, it's Campbell . . . I need to talk with you.  I'm a little upset that the password is Maggie's birthday and not mine . . . but we'll talk about this later.  Back to the reason we're on the blog . . . we want to say happy mother's day . . . you're the best mommy ever!!!!  To show our luv for you, in honor of your five-for postings that you do about us, we're going to do a five for mother's day.  Here are the five reasons we love our mommy.

Number 5 - mommy inspires us . . . you do great things for so many people and are an inspiration . . . my mommy is a triathlete!

Number 3 - mommy cares about "the family" - she does things that allow for us to make "family" memories.  mommy reads the bible to us every night.  mommy also started something (she stole the idea from the president) called roses & thorns.  It was also mommy's idea to let us have a special doughnut on our birthdays.

Happy Mother's Day Mommy . . .  We love you so much!

I Tri-ed! (Again)

You might remember that I did my first triathlon last summer (click here).  I really enjoyed it and since getting my new bike for Christmas, I have been thinking about doing another one.  In February, I started a triathlon training class at our YMCA and it ended today with our class competing in the Tri the Rock triathlon.  

It was longer than the one I did last year (a 500m swim, 18 mile bike, and 5K run vs a 225m swim, 10 mile bike, and 2 mile run) and harder but I was so much better prepared.  Well, I say prepared, but in actuality I (and the rest of my class) was prepared to do a 400m swim and 15 mile bike ride as their website advertised...we were all thrown a bit today when we heard that the distances were actually further than we thought.  But no one chickened out and we all finished!  

I finished in 2 hours and 3 minutes.  I could not have done it without Robbie's support during my training and today at the race.  He had a bucket personalized for me and made t-shirts for the family again this year.  Also, having my family (Mom, Dad, my aunt, as well as Robbie and the girls) there cheering me on was great!
