Martha's Worst Nightmare Happened Today . . .

First let me say thanks to everyone who posted or sent Martha an encouraging email today. She really appreciated it.

So Martha's biggest worry has been that she'll do something "first" for her mother since she'll be spending the days with her.

This morning, I called Nana to see how Campbell's day has been. Well, about an hour later I get a call from Nana asking me if Campbell can roll from her front to back. Well, she can't by herself. Martha has to "tuck an arm" to get Campbell to roll over. This morning around noon Campbell had her first "first." She can roll from front to back now unassisted. Yay for Campbell . . . but couldn't she have waited a for week two to start her 'firsts" and not four hours into day ONE???

Hurray for Campbell! Isn't that the cutest thing! Don't fret Martha you will see plenty of first's, but if you don't let me tell you a little secret -- it just thrills us Nanas to death to be able to see the "first". I remember I felt Callie's first tooth and her mommy and daddy did not even know she had one. I was so excited!

A former colleague of mine once said that she told her daycare not to tell her about any firsts if they happened at daycare. That way, she could see each milestone and enjoy it as if it was truly the first time. She figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal of the baby book was "off" by a day or two - no one would ever know! I don't know if that would be a big deal with Campbell being so early - but just thought I'd share. I was considering doing the same thing, but I ended up being able to stay home with the kids (unexpected, but in a good way!).

Congrats to all of you - time to start babyproofing!

I'm sorry Martha and Robbie. It was just a birthday surprise for her Nana. I was as shocked as you were and thought she must have done it last night since she turned over as soon as I put her on her tummy. I also don't really consider myself "daycare" but if I had known, I would not have put her on her tummy. Can't wait for new adventures with Campbell! Love, Nana

It happens. I went back to work after six weeks, and my husband has been a stay at home dad ever since. He's had some firsts and I've had some firsts. Some things she does well for me (baths, eat off a spoon [though not much lately], etc). Some things she does better for him (go to sleep, come when asked).

You'll have a first. At least it was gotten on tape! None of our little one's firsts are recorded, except her birthday.

Well, Happy Birthday to Nana! This is a special time for her to be caring for your precious little girl, and it is exciting for her to celebrate and be a part of her growing up! And, besides, Campbell was just practicing her moves for Mommy and Daddy at "school" today. She wanted to do it just right for them! Or either show off for her cousins! Learning to roll may be a good defensive move around Zachary!
Love you both and Campbell! Aunt Ju-Ju

First: YAY to Campbell!!! How's exciting and wonderful. Second: Martha, I completely know how you feel. I have told the ladies that take care of Anna that if she does something new, I DON'T want to know. I think being blissfully unaware will settle with my mommy guilt much better than knowing if I missed something. This has been one of the hardest things for me to deal with as I return back to work. Hang in there!
