1) Tee-Ball wrapped up this week. We ventured into tee-ball after Campbell didn't enjoy playing soccer last year ("too much running"). Anyway, coaching a bunch of 5 and 6 year old is, to say the least, an adventure. Here is how it felt:
Anyway, Campbell did great. She went after each ball and even tried to catch a few pop flies. She was fearless. The most memorable thing from the season was watching Campbell base run. It looked a lot like this:
There was a time that Campbell, who was the last batter which meant she ran all the bases, ran all four bases like this. The crowd thought it was the funniest thing that they have ever seen.
Here are a few pictures:
Up next for Campbell, according to Campbell, is "football." Don't ask . . . I'm not sure where she got this idea from.
2) Little Miss Maggie turned 4 on the 18th. As I look back through the pictures, this one speaks to me:
Maggie has such a huge personality. She's funny and her facial expressions just make you laugh. Here she is giving a classmate "the look" during her party. It's funny how both girls are so alike, but so different.
3) Growing Up . . . Campbell's growing up too quick. Coming up later this week, we have a "raising a successful 1st grader night" at Campbell's school. That's right, Campbell will be in 1st grade next year. I can't believe how quick kindergarten flew by.
Over this past weekend, Campbell and I went out and did grocery shopping without Maggie (Maggie needed a rest). This was the first time that I gave Campbell her own cart and let her help me find items. Usually, it has been easier to just throw her in the buggy and push her around. Anyway, we had a great time. One of the things I realized is how she's growing up. I realized this when we stopped and inspected ears of corn . . . I know it sounds silly, but my pint-sized princess is growing up.
4) Campbell's turning into a swimmer . . . the local YMCA has a water park and it opened up this past weekend. Children have to wear a wrist band (red, yellow, or green) in order to be able to go down the water slide. Red, the guard will catch the child and walk to the side of the pool; yellow, the guard will pay a little extra attention to make sure they make it to the side; and green, the child is a fully swimmer. On Saturday, Campbell attempted the swim test and she didn't do that well. She ended up with a red band because she had to stop a few times (her hair was in her face). She didn't care at all about the color of the band. We went back to the park today and she and I were talking about practicing swimming. She said she wanted a guard to watch her . . . as in, watch her re-test. With her hair in a ponytail, she did it! She has been promoted from a red band to a yellow band. So now she can go down the large water slide and swim to the side herself. I was so proud of her determination and of her swimming skills. She's come along so far!
5) Martha and I had a date night on Saturday. The sitter was someone that both of the girls know well (Ms. Williams - the graduate assistant in Campbell's class for the past two years). Usually, there's a 30 second transition from when we leave to when both girls return to their normal self. I knew based on Maggie's temperament from the afternoon that she might have a little harder time than normal transitioning after we left. According to Ms. Williams, it took about 30 minutes of "hit or miss" however, she finally calmed down and everything was fine. We came home and Ms. Williams was telling us that she was looking at our "Disney's picture book" with the girls. Maggie was loving the pictures. However, when they got to a picture that I was in, Maggie would start crying and say, "I miss my daddy." Poor girl . . . . However, she survived and Martha and I had a great time at dinner and the movies.
