EEG Results

Above is a picture of Campbell smiling because she received her EEG results today . . . nothing showing any signs of seizures . . . great news!!!!

However, EEGs only show "in time" seizures, therefore, if she does not have a seizure while hooked up to the machine, it's not going to show any seizure activity. Because of this, we are going to go see a pediatric neurologist. The appointment will not be for a few weeks. We'll let you know how it goes.

We have not received an update yet . . . as soon as we do, we'll be sure to let you know.

As for the actual EEG . . . we kept Campbell up until about 8:30pm Sunday night (they told us 11pm). We woke her up at 5am and didn't feed her (they told us not to). They wanted her to sleep through the process. Well, the ride to CMC was quite interesting . . . as long as Martha was in the back seat singing How much is that doggy in the window. . . . she was fine. When Martha stopped, she'd begin to fuss. So I heard that song for 30 miles! Once there, at 7:40, she took about 3 sips of her bottle then fell fast asleep. Amazingly she slept through the entire process. She even slept through the placement of the electrodes . . . poor girl, she was so tired!

A Prayer Request & the Renaissance Festival

I feel weird put the words "prayer request" and "renaissance festival" in the same title . . . but I couldn't think of another title that would work.

We'll start with the prayer request . . . take a deep breath . . . everything is fine (we hope) . . . what I'm about to describe is probably nothing more than two special education teachers being over-cautious . .. but one can never know. So over the past two months, every once in a while, Martha will notice that all of a sudden, Campbell will roll her eyes up and back and hold them them for about 5 - 10 seconds and her eyelids would kind of twitch, then her eyes will return to normal. She doesn't stiffen up or shake or "snap out of it" like a typical person having a seizures (with our jobs, Martha and I have seen our fair share of seizures). We have always been able to find a "cause" (sun in her eyes, playing with her by lifting her up and down really fast, etc). Then a couple of weeks ago she saw her do this again for no reason so we called the doctor and scheduled the test. Well, the next night, I was joking with Martha's mom (Nana) about Martha having munchausen syndrome (only a joke). The next day, Campbell was at Nana's house with Macy, our 3 year old niece. Macy turns to Nana and says, "Nana, look what Campbell is doing!" then Macy rolls her eyes towards the back of her head. Okay, besides Martha, now a 3 year old has seen this too. It's time to take the "eye rolling" seriously. So Monday morning at 7am, Campbell is getting an EEG at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. We'll post once we hear the results (within a day) . . . hence the prayer request . . . we'd really appreciate it!

On to something more exciting . . . so today we took Campbell, along with Martha's sister Emily and her kids (Ethan and Macy) to the Charlotte Renaissance Festival.

Campbell and I decided to have some wench push us in a swing. It was her first swing ride. About 1 minute after getting off the ride, Campbell threw-up all over me! =) What an enjoyable "first ride" for her!

Finally, on the way out, we wanted to get a group picture of all of us so we could remember all the fun that we had during this day. So we found another wench on the way out to take the group shot. Wow, I'm so glad that we have this "group picture" to remember Campbell's first Festival . . .

Another day of firsts . . .

So it was another day of firsts . . .

My first ridiculous Halloween costume that my parents made me wear . . . I sure cannot wait until I'm 13 and I can tell my parents where to stick this costume . . . .

It's my first visit to a farm . . . first corn maze . . . (Cherry Place Farm in Rock Hill, SC)

This is Nana, Martha, and Macy (can't see her, but trust me, she's there) lost in the corn maze. Luckily I was with my daddy . . . we made it out in one piece.

It's my first "posed" picture with my cousin Ethan. This is me with my head pointing 12 degrees to the right! (My PT and I are hopefully working on his . . . I'm tired of looking at the world sideways!)

Finally, to cap off the night, this is me sipping some juice (for my constipated tummy) from a sippy cup. To be more accurate, this is me attempting to sip from a sippy cup.

I'm a Barbie Girl . . .

So today started like any other day for Campbell. I got her up, changed her diaper, then let her hang out with mommy for a few minutes. I think Campbell really loves this time with her mom.

This afternoon, Campbell had a great PT session (thanks Kathy)! We've been a little worried that Campbell is tilting her head to the right. Don't worry . . . Kathy says Campbell's neck is just fine . . . just a little stiff.

Finally, Campbell qualified for the Synagis shots. Synagis shots help prevent RSV infections through the winter RSV season. (RSV, or the respiratory syncytial virus, may just cause a cold in older children but it can cause a serious and life threatening infection in younger high risk children.) Well, her first shot came in yesterday so today we took her to get the Synagis shot (one a month throughout RSV season- until April). While we were there we figured that we'd go ahead and get Campbell a flu vaccine too. When it was all said and done (two shots later) Campbell has two Barbie bandaids on her legs to make for lasting memories.

It's hard being a socialite . . .

Peeps, I'm not sure what a socialite is, but I'm guessing if I looked it up in a dictionary my picture would be there. Let me tell you about my weekend.

It started off like any other weekend. On Friday, my mommy was feeding me some peas (my new food of the week - they look like neon green), then all of a sudden, I was lifted outside and my mommy, daddy, Norah, Folly and I were outside on a blanket enjoying the cool Fall evening.

Saturday was a fun day! We went to cousin Ethan's soccer game. He did a great job playing soccer. His team won . . . way to go Ethan! At the game we saw Nana, Pop, Aunt Emily, Uncle Rodney, cousin Macy, and Aunt Sara. It was nice seeing everyone!

After the game we went to go take some Halloween photos . . . you'll have to wait to see what they look like . . . I promised mommy and daddy that I would not tell anyone!

Saturday night, Grandma and Grandpa Parker were out in the big town of Rock Hill (from Lancaster) so we surprised them by showing up at the restaurant they were eating at.

On Sunday, my mommy and I did some shopping, like women should. She took me to Target . . . one of my most favorite places, other than Legacy's Child (which is located in Rock Hill). While were there there, we met one of Mommy's friends. Her name is Ashley. She's a shopping fan too!

Later that day, I attended one of my BFF's 2 year old birthday part. Her name is Emily and she had a Dora themed birthday. This is me below snoozing while all the guest were arriving.

I did manage to wake up for the most important part of any party . . . the food. This is me with Emily's mommy . . . we're watching Emily eat her cupcake. I'm hoping that mommy blends me up a cupcake to eat . . . they sure look yummy! I do have a funny story from the party though . . . so I seem to spit-up a lot . . . however, I hardly "projectile" spit-up. To date, I've projectile'd three times. Once last weekend at Emily's house I spit milk up all over her driveway. Then today, I did it twice again . . . AT EMILY'S HOUSE and once was all over Emily's mommy! I am so embarrassed. That's three times and all three times are around Emily and her mommy . . . . hmm . . . I really like them. I'm not sure I keep doing this around them. Sorry Emily and Mrs. Adrienne.

After the party, and a quick nap, mommy, daddy and I took a walk down the street and back. It was sunny out there so mommy made sure I wore my sun hat.

To cap off the evening, mommy, daddy and I went to a "Columbus Day" party at our friends Chrissy and Michael. They had a party since they had Monday (Columbus Day) off from work. After polling everyone there, the only people who were off on Monday was Chrissy and Michael . .. the rest of the people there, including mommy and daddy, have to work tomorrow. Below is three of my friends, Nichole, Michelle, and Chrissy . . . we are all Bunko BFFs . . . I'll see you next weekend at Couple's Bunko!

After coming home, having a bottle, I'm off to sleep . . . TTYL . . . Peeps!

Robbie and Martha are having a debate...to ditch the bathtub and get something bigger or stick with what we have. He thinks Campbell is too big for the one we have and she thinks it's perfectly fine.
He thinks:
-she is too big
-her feet hang over the edge
-she splashes water everywhere
-we can buy a bigger baby tub and put it in the guest bathtub

She thinks:
-she is not too big
-the splashing is only when Daddy riles her up
-I don't want to lean over the bathtub until I have to...it will kill my back!
-Why buy a bigger baby bathtub when this one works fine? We have an inflatable tub to go in the guest bathtub for when she can sit up on her own...which will be before too long.

Robbie and Campbell Talk About Life

To cap of a wonderful weekend, Campbell and I (robbie) decided to talk about our weekend.

Maybe she was telling me that she was upset that I forgot to brush her hair the night before?

2/3 of a year...

Campbell celebrated her 8 month birthday yesterday. It's so hard to believe that in 4 months she'll be a year old! We've had so much fun with her recently...

She tried applesauce for the first time today. At first she wasn't so sure about it, but after a few bites she was fussing if I didn't get it in her mouth fast enough. This is the first food that I haven't made, but the website I love about making baby food (wholesomebabyfood.com) says that since ready-made natural, organic, unsweetened applesauce is very available and inexpensive, that it's one food to buy rather than make. I will post later about making our own baby food. It's actually kind of fun and cheap! This week I'll be making organic sweet potatoes and peas. Check out the videos of applesauce:


Campbell loves to stand as you can see in this picture. Isn't she cute in her first pair of "real" big-girl jeans and new shoes? We had to get her some shoes for a couple of reasons: she loves to pull her socks off and she loves to stand up. We joke that she'll walk before she crawls since she really doesn't like "tummy time".


Campbell really loves to "help" her daddy work. Some of you know that Robbie is working on his doctorate in educational leadership and Campbell sometimes helps him write his papers. She is about as good a speller as he is, so it's good for both of them. :)


She's been laughing and squealing with excitement so much recently. It's been so neat to watch her develop and start to enjoy new things. This video is of her laughing when I was playing with her this afternoon...so sweet!

It's Hump Day!

Campbell is really upset that today is only Wednesday!

However, Campbell is ecstatic that it's one day closer to Friday!

She's a Keeper!!!!

Yes, you heard me . . . Campbell's a keeper. I'm not going to lie . . . for the first few night of her being home and pretty much every night when she was going through her colicky stage, I'd pick up the NICU discharge notebook and look at what the return policy was on babies.

Don't get me wrong . . . I WAS NOT looking at permanently returning her, but letting her nurses at the NICU watch her for a night (or two) didn't sound too bad. I know they were pretty pricey babysitters . . . but when nothing worked during the colicky stage, it was sure tempting.

However, it's official . . . no more thoughts of her returning to the NICU . . .Campbell's here to stay! I've even deleted the NICU number from my cell phone speed dial. So I guess you could say that the NICU and I are broken up . . . we're over!

Campbell has matured so much! I believe it was last Thursday that she slept from 7:30pm until 5am. (she hasn't repeated this yet) She's really starting to develop a personality and she's especially good at letting you know when she wants something. She's now eating real food. Today it was pears. So her list of foods that she eats (that Martha makes for her & she'll post about later this week) is avocado, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, pears, and banana. I think the acorn squash is her favorite.

Today's Nap

A blast from the past

The Compton's have had a great past few days. Campbell has enjoyed, actually LOVES her latest two new food additions . . . acorn squash and sweet potatoes. So far, we're making all of her meals, and it's quite easy and enjoyable.

We also had a fashion show this evening. Here is Campbell preparing for her photo shoot. Don't be fooled . . . she still only has hair on the front/top of her head.

for the photo shoot we tried on a hat that we bought her last year before she was born. It's a size 6-12 month and it fits which is crazy because she's just now fitting into size 3-6 month clothes...can you say "big head like her daddy?"...

The Adventures of the Life of Campbell

I wake up, lay in mama's bed, and drink a nice tall bottle of milk (not really . . it's amazing what a blanket propping up a bottle can do for a picture)



After I get dressed, I get to play around with my toys in my Bumbo.

Around late afternoon, I enjoy a nice nap in my swing. No nap is complete without a lovey to cuddle up next to.

Finally, for dinner, I enjoy a nice helping of home-made sweet potatoes . . . yummy . . . they are good for my tummy!

Happy Birthday Mommy! Guess What . . . today is my mommy's birthday!!! I would really love it if you would leave her a comment on our blog.

It was a year ago today that my mommy and daddy announced to the world that she was pregnant with me. I was only "7 weeks" when they told everyone . . . and here, a year later, they have a beautiful 7 month old child . . . ME!!!
