Campbell's First Day of 3 Year Old Preschool

Today was Campbell's first day at Macfeat Early Childhood Laboratory School. It's a preschool housed at Winthrop University. Campbell was so excited this morning. What makes this school even more special . . . her friend Eleanor is in her class too.

Here is Campbell this morning looking like such a big girl.
Campbell outside Macfeat (of course she was the first one there).
Campbell's teacher sent me this during the day.

Here is Campbell and Eleanor.

So you know that a Compton Corner story is not going to end here . . . After Campbell's teacher sent the picture, I (Robbie) made a rookie-parent mistake . . . I replied and asked, "How is Campbell doing?"

She replied, "All in all she's done very well. Has a lot to learn. Large group times (sitting still) and rest times have been most difficult, but we'll get it figured out."

To be honest, I expected these two areas to be tough for her. I mean, she's Princess Campbell. To rub salt into the wound, when I went to pick her up, I talked some more with her teacher. "She probably was the most difficult one today when it came to rest time."

Ugh . . . so you know Martha and I, we're going to work on this. I mean, let's be real . . . the child with two special education teachers as parents cannot be the "most difficult one." So I sat down with Campbell tonight and asked her, "Tell me what you were thinking today during nap time?"

Here is Campbell's response for the first 3 minutes of what went through her head, inspired by mind of Jason Good:

Each of these thoughts/feelings/emotions last about 3 seconds each.
  1. I want to see what Eleanor is doing.
  2. I want to to take my shoes off.
  3. I want to take my socks off.
  4. GET THESE SOCKS OFF MY FEET!
  5. I wonder if each toilet sounds the same when I flush them.
  6. What does that green button do on the microwave.
  7. I wonder if my dogs Norah and Folly are in my class hiding.
  8. I think my Pillow Pet wants a sip of water.
  9. I think I need to wash all of the toothbrushes.
  10. I wonder if there is anyone here that I haven't said "hi" to?
  11. I want to play Veggie Tales on my daddy's phone.
  12. I want to play Veggie Tales on my mommy's phone.
  13. I love my daddy.
  14. My daddy likes eggs.
  15. I HATE EGGS!
  16. I LOVE CHEDDAR BUNNIES!!!
  17. Where's Maggie?
  18. I want to wear a dress instead of this shirt.
  19. Seriously, where's Maggie?
  20. I wonder if Eleanor will go play in the dress-up center with me?
  21. I don't want to wear Elmo panties anymore.
  22. I WANT MY TINKERBELL PANTIES!
  23. My mommy wears panties.
  24. My daddy is a boy.
  25. I want to play Angry Birds on my mommy's phone.
  26. I wonder if my teacher has a phone that plays games too.
  27. I'm thirsty.
  28. I wish milk would come out of the water fountain.
  29. John Jacob Jingleheimer Shit!
  30. I want my daddy!
  31. What, I have one, two, three, four, five toes.
  32. My Nana panted my toenails red.
  33. I wonder if Pop's toenails are red?
  34. My shirt itches.
  35. What's up with that girl's shirt? Elmo was so 2010.
  36. What's that noise?
  37. Is that a dog?
  38. Is that a cat?
  39. My mommy hates cats.
  40. I wonder if that chair is soft.
  41. Hey, the teacher stole my book. That's mine!
  42. Why am I still wearing these socks?!
  43. I want to see my dog.
  44. I'm wearing a white shirt.
  45. I have a belly button.
  46. Maggie has a belly button.
  47. I wonder if my dog has a belly button?
  48. My panties are wet.
  49. I peed, but just a little.
  50. I'm bored.
Repeat!

Wow! I am cracking up. Don't worry educator parents, she'll get the routine down. (It is hard to hear those words though!) You're all doing great.

When we went to meet the teachers today, our 7yo was to shy to even tell his teacher our names, though he did manage to squeak out our phone number. Our 5yo was totally outspoken when meeting her big brother's teacher, but wasn't interested in talking to her own.
So, if it's any consolation, we had a day the opposite of what we expected, too - and our kids have already been at their school for two years!
