Coming Home Date

So I (robbie) thought for sure that she'd be coming home this weekend and we found out today from the Discharge Coordinator that she's not. No, everything is perfectly fine with her . . . it's just that she's been on caffeine since birth which helps prevent apnea (slowing/stopping of breathing). Martha has been asking the nurses for a few days about this and they took her off of it Wednesday. . . . great news . . . right?! Yes and no . . . yes, it's great that she's off of it . . . . but no because now we have to wait a certain amount of time before they will release her. Caffeine builds up in her system and it has a very slow half life. Therefore they are requiring her to stay there to make sure that when the caffeine is out of her system, she's not going to have any apnea.
Do Martha and I know how long caffeine stays in her system . . . yes. Do we know when her discharge date is going to be (pending no medical issues) . . . sure do! Are we going to tell you . . . . nope. I decided this because I didn't want to jinx anything. There was a infant in Campbell's wing (one of her BFFs) that had a discharge date and a few days prior, she stopped feeding and now she's been moved back to the intensive care side. Also, I'd hate to tell you the date, then something happen that keeps her for one more day . . . the people worry. Anyway, I know this annoys many of you out there . . . . sorry. I will tell you this . . . Martha and I will not be rooming in this weekend (although we still have this choice). Robbie or Martha will not win Baby Madness (although I know who will). Also, I'm still debating if I'm going to announce it the night before, or after we get home. (vote to let me know what you think).

Okay, onto Campbell . . . look at her! Her NG tube is out and she's been feeding on her own all day. She's up to 20 full feeds and they also began ad-lib feedings today. Three of her feedings were several cc's over her minimum. Also, we found out that they did another head scan on 3/31 (we didn't know, but it is a routine 2 month procedure) and it came back perfect! Later tonight they are going to do her car seat test in which they strap her into (fit her for) her car seat. Then they will put the oxygen saturation monitor on her and have her sit there for 45 minutes to make sure she can handle the seat (for as long as the care ride home would be). Finally, she's grown . . . she's up to about 17 inches!!!

PS It's 9:45pm and we just heard from the nurse . . . Campbell just took 55cc's (18 over her minimum amount)

PPS Reminder to everyone to sign our guest log that Martha created. The link to the guest log is: http://robbieandmartha.blogspot.com/2008/03/whos-out-there.html

17 inches...that was Louisa's length at birth! Way to go Campbell. As far as not saying when you plan to go home, I have to say that you are doing the right thing. We got our hopes up many times only to spend another night in the hospital. Just take it day by day and know that she will be home soon! We are thinking and praying for you!!! love,Amy, Blair, and Louisa

Save your sweet coming home moments for the three of you, and tell us all about it once you are settled. I already voted, but wanted to weigh in with a post as well. I guess we won't see quite as many posts once Campbell is home (I think everyone will miss them!), but I'm sure praying for the coming home date to be SOON, and with no apnea or bradys or feeding issues to stop you!

Campbell, you are so pretty. I can't wait to visit you. I love these last 2 pictures. I will keep praying for you and I hope you enjoy your little ride in the car seat(even if it isn't moving)
